5/14/22 Race #17 Henry Harnish

NJHOSCR Race #17

Randolph Raceway

Saturday May 14, 2022

A great group of racers turned out for the final race of our season. There were a lot of fun and laughs all day. There were a couple of our regulars that didn't make it. Jimmy B. was missing after having surgery as was Derek W. and newcomer Dave Singer.

Trans Am

This by far has become our most competitive class. The top spots were separated by merely track sections. Except for 1 driver Dave Kosch who has established himself as the driver to beat.

2-Mot Fitzcharles 88-laps 36-sec.

3-Henry Harnish 88-laps 23-sec.

5-Scott Herald 87-laps 24-sec.

Outlaw Late Models

Garden State Doval

A fast field of cars took to the speedway to try and tame the track that is to tough to tame. There was a lot of door handle-to-door handle and laughs on the Doval. There were also a few crashes. One in particular was the John Teevan owned, Henry Harinsh driven car that ended up on another racers lane and went full throttle into the first turn wall. Well, the wall one the fight as the car ended up in 2 pieces. That didn't stop Henry from finishing the race. When all the dust settled Mot Fitzcharles had claimed another Late Model victory.

1-Mot Fitzcharles 158-laps 09-sec.

2-John Teevan 157-laps 16-sec.

3-Henry Harnish 150-laps 16-sec.

4-Charlie Clohessi 142-laps 16-sec.

5-Scott Herald 134-laps 04-sec.

Sportsman

The Sportsman race was definitely one to watch as 2 drivers were putting on a performance. John Teevan and Henry Harnish were really burning up the track, With some very quick laps. Everyone else was racing for 3rd. One driver who has been consistently getting closer to the top spot was Charlie Clohessi. He made it known that come next season he was going to be a contender in all divisions. Marshalling was tough on the Randolph Raceway for some racers as the cars are getting so much faster to handle. When all was said and done, it was "The Champ" Henry Harnish picking up the win over a stellar field of drivers.

1-Henry Harnish 113-laps 27-sec.

2-John Teevan 113-laps 12-sec.

3-Charlie Clohessi 108-laps 08-sec.

4-Mot Fitzcharles 106-laps 17-sec.

4/30/22 Race #16 Jimmy Bee

Trans Am

The Trans Am cars took to the Lafayette Raceway for some exciting action. There was one driver in particular who was looking forward to running this class. John Teevan had been struggling to take the top spot in the TA class this season. He deputed a new Camaro hot rod to try and shake the monkey off his back. With the racing getting closer each event he knew it wasn't going to be easy. Dave Kosch, Charlie Clohessi seemed like they were going to be contenders for the top spot this day. When all was said and done John Teevan stood atop the rest of the field, with Dave Kosch taking second and Henry Harnish, making his first start at Lafayette finished 3rd.

2-Dave Kosch 99-laps 09-sec.

As the 2 of them turned up the wick to try and dethrone the undefeated OLM driver.

4/2/22 Race #15 Tommy Kosch

The usual crowd, naturally, all found their way back to Laceytown Road, with two new NJHO additions filling out the tech boxes. Relative newcomers Dave Singer and John Ciccone brought the driver total to twelve. Full driveways and full pit spaces always makes for a better day of competition. Last weekend was no exception; three standard class runs put three different winners on the top step. We started the day with something a little different though.

We began the day with our first attempt at running Doc Cosel’s icy smooth 3’X6’ Viper track, “Crimson Ivory”, using Trans-Am class cars. The track itself ran perfectly, to Doc’s credit. Running door handle to door handle on this layout is almost unavoidable. The potential for running door handle to door handle TO DOOR HANDLE on that thing is awesome. Unfortunately, the amount of awesomeness going back to the lap counting computer proved to be too much. A persistent connection error could not be cleared and, after just a few heats, we moved the T/a class over to the big track for a regular format finish. Scott Herold can consider himself the unofficial Crimson King for his efforts during the first three heats. There’s some pretty great video of his work vs. Joe Skylark below. Already looking forward to the next visit to Franklin and Doc’s white ribbon of death.

Trans-Am Class Summary

Drivers were allowed a brief practice session to get their T/a cars ready for the much different, larger track. Franklin Motor Speedway is fast and has lots of top-end sections, a couple of trigger burps, and two hairpins. Navigating the hairpins is where it’s at on the big track and nobody knows where it’s at better than Mot Fitzcharles. His birch beer colored, Norcia #81 is as good a Trans-Am as you’re ever gonna find. Mot drove his Camaro to the front, beating Dave K. by a few track sections. Scott Herold, driving a not-Ford for the first time ever in T/a, continued driving really well after the track change and finished with a well-earned third place in his new, very vibrant Camaro. Joe Skylark ran well also, finishing fourth.

Trans-Am Results

1) Mot Fitzcharles (69 laps / 20 track sections)

2) Dave Kosch (69 / 17)

3) Scott Herold (67)

4) Joe Skylark (65)

5) John Teevan (63)

Indy Car Class Summary

It wouldn’t be North Jersey H.O. racing if we didn’t continue with more drama in the very next class. John Teevan was kind enough to loan Doc Cosel one of his backup Indy Cars after he had trouble with his own. Doc took advantage of the opportunity and proceeded to kick John T.’s butt with his own car. To be fair, John Teevan does not build “B” cars, just “A” cars with variations. Doc drove John T.’s yellowest yellow car evar home for the win. John Teevan naturally finished 2nd and Joe Skylark continued to shine with a strong 3rd place finish. Of note also; new guy, Dave S., turned in a pretty good sized chunk of laps also; just 5 laps behind the 3rd place finisher. Well done, Dave.

Indy Car Results

1) Doc Cosel (73 laps)

2) John Teevan (72)

3) Joe Skylark (67 / 41)

4) Mario Lamarta (67 / 25)

5) Mot TakesAbreak (66)

Sportsman Class Summary

Our last class of the day provided no less drama than the two races prior. The drivers, at this point, had figured out the best way to get around Franklin Motor Speedway and the number of de-slots had gone way down. We ramped up the heat times to our usual 3 minutes and the lap totals followed suit. Twelve heats and 133 laps later, Dave K. was the final winner of the day, driving yet another John Teevan built marshall killer. JT and Mot came home 2nd and 3rd respectively. Bob Lamarta ended his day well with a strong 4th place finish and that Skylark guy once again reminded us that he too knows how to build awesome race cars, finishing 5th.

Sportsman Class Results

1) Dave Kosch (133 laps)

2) John Teevan (131)

3) Mot Fitzcharles (129)

4) Bob Lamarta (128)

5) Joe Skylark (127)

Congrats to all winners. Huge thanks to Bob, Doc and Mario for hosting a terrific race day. NJHO race #16 is scheduled for April 16th at the home of the floating oval, Mot’s Victory National Speedway. 1/22/22 Race #10 Bob LaMarta

Hello everyone.

8 racers descended upon Franklin Raceway on Saturday, January 22nd on a blisteringly cold morning. I can personally attest to it as coming off of RT15, my car’s thermometer -2. Holy schnikes!!! Getting to Bob’s house the temperature warmed up to a warm ZERO degrees. Ooooh, baby. Anyhow, here are the race results.

First up was the Trans Am class. Doc Cosel ran a stupid fast yellow lane, but for whatever reason gremlins followed him on the other 3 lanes. It was a shame too because he was motoring and smooth. The top four were as follows; Mario LaMarta finished a nice 4th, Charlie took a hard-earned 3rd, Bob LaMarta came in 2nd, and John held on to take home the win. The top four were separated by only four laps. Some close racing.

Next class to be run was the Indy class, a crowd favorite. Once again, laps were coming fast and furious. Coming in 4th was none other than Joe Skylark. Bob LaMarta and Charlie swapped 3rd and 2nd place order of finishes from the previous race, with John Teevan taking the top honor. Doc gets the honorable mention as he finished fifth closely behind Joe driving his backup as the mean race gremlins once again bit him hard. But he still gutted it out. Way to go Doc.

After a nice break for pizza and cold refreshments, racing resumed for our last and fastest class, Sportsman. Laps were faaaaaast, mid to low 5-second range, with a couple of drivers eclipsing the 4-second range. Absolutely moving. Coming in 4th by sections was Once again Joe Skylark, by sections over Mario LaMarta, who was followed closely behind by Doc. Bob finished a strong 3rd. Charlie finished a superb 2nd with a new chassis, which was breaking in nicely, as was Joe’s which was also a fresh build. Once again taking top honors was John. Took the sweep for the day, his first-ever. That was no easy task with these guys, who get faster and faster every race. The next race will be in 2 weeks at Jimmy Bee’s. Details to be coming shortly.

In the end it was Mot Fitzcharles picking up his second win of the day by mere track sections over hard charger John Teevan.

1-Mot Fitzcharles 97 laps 20 track sec.

2-John Teevan 97 laps 9 track sec.

3-Joe Toscano 93 laps 31 track sec.

4- Dave Kosch 91 laps 32 track sec.

5- Doc Cosel 90 laps 14 track sec.

Sportsman/E Fray

The Sportsman class was the last to take to the speedway after a very good lunch break that had a lot of us laughing. In a superb display of driving John Teevan out distanced himself from all other competitors. Turning the fastest laps of the day, he would not be denied the victory. Mot Fitzcharles, Jimmy Bee, Dave Kosch and Robert LaMarta all gave it there best to try and grab the remaing podium spots.

1-John Teevan 133 laps 2 track sec.

2-Mot Fitzcharles 125 laps 14 track sec.

3-Dave Kosch 117 laps 20 track sec.

4-Robert LaMarta 116 laps 21 track sec.

5-Joe Toscano 114 laps 7 track sec.

It was a great day of laughs and racing. Our next event will be on January 8 at Victory Speedway. Check the event calendar and our website for more details. From all of us at NJHOSCR have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

10/17/21 Race #4 Jimmy Bee

Today's return to Lafayette Speedway was a super fast, super great time. Massive thanks to Jimmy Bee for his hospitality.

Mot brought home the bacon in his always greasy smooth, pork chop colored, Norcia 81 Camaro to win the Trans-Am opener by a handful of laps. Dave K. finished second and Charlie C. expertly recovered from an exploding front wheel/axle ordeal to scootch his way onto the last podium step.

In the Indy Car round next, it was Doc Cosel's turn to scramble his way out of early trouble. His primary, much faster, car decided to take a nap as the first green flag dropped; sending him back to the tech box to scoop out his white backup car. Doc was able to keep that backup car gassed and pointed straight enough to climb his way to fourth, just two laps shy of Dave K. in third. Charlie C. had another strong run in this second round, out-gunning Mot by several laps to win the class in his all yellow #24 butter bullet.

Without interference from Sportsman class standout, John Teevan, Mot was able to nail down the Sportsman final pretty easily. Dave K. was next closest, finishing more than a dozen laps behind. In a surprise twist, newcomer Roberto Lamartino came home third in his first Sportsman race ever in America. Congratulazioni, Roberto.

We'll have full race results posted soon, I'm sure. I don't have those myself, unfortunately. Congrats again to all the NJHO racers that stopped in today. Looking forward to the next round at Casa Lamartino in a couple of weeks. We'll get that race event posted soon as well.

Have a great evening, everyone.
