Vintage Trans-Am Class Rules
This class will be run at 18 volts.
• Chassis – Aurora ThunderJet and Wizard wizjet chassis only. Also, you can peen/reem the holes in the chassis.
• Top plate - trimming of the top plate rails for body clearance will be allowed and only to the level of the top surface of the gear plate. Matching top plate only allowed in this class. Rails must remain under clip. Also, you can peen the holes in the top plate and chassis. Also, you can peen/reem the holes in the top plate.
• Gears – Stock or stock replacement brass gears including CNC cut gears. Stock or stock replacement crown gear only (including CNC cut gear). 9 tooth pinion only! Delrin/plastic Idler gear allowed.
• Armatures – 16 ohm minimum armature from Aurora, OS3 Typhoon and Dash. Balancing and truing allowed. No rewinds or de-winds allowed. Spacing of the arm is allowed. Maximum spacing of .020 shims between the arm and the bottom of the top plate only.
• Magnets - Only Aurora magnet color combos allowed for this class are: Green/Orange, Green/White, Black/ Black, or Black/Black with white stripe! These are the colors of stock Aurora ThunderJet 500! One Stop OS3 Red Dragon magnets are also allowed in this class. Zapping and matching allowed. Shims allowed – non-ferrous material only. No painting of magnets allowed.
• Brushes – copper/carbon composite OEM or replacement brushes only such as; Thunder brushes, Wizzard, BSRT, Slottech, Model Motoring etc. No silver brushes! You can cut an x or a single V-channel to brush bottom to keep them from spinning.
• Pickup Shoes - O.E.M. stock pick up shoes and similar T-Jet replacements such as BSRT (504 only), Dash, American Line, Wizzard or Slot Tech. - allowed (Must have step, ski shoes not allowed). The range of travel may be limited.
• Pickup Springs - springs must be Dash, Aurora, American Line, Model Motoring, BSRT (t-jet springs only), Dr. Oogan, Wizzard or Champ.
• Front end – Any independent or non independent plastic, aluminum or Delrin front end may be used as long as it meets the 1-1/8th inch max width requirement. Aurora aluminum speed wheels are ok also. No brass weighted front ends in this class. Mounted front tires shall be equal to or greater than 0.320" diameter.
• Rear tires and rims – Rear tires shall be equal to or greater than 0.350" diameter and a maximum width of .095. Stock Dash, T-Jet or Replacement wheels (single or double flanged) are legal. Rear rims shall be aluminum, plastic, nylon or Delrin. No weighted hubs allowed. Careful! Don't buy the X Factor Fairground (Mopar Mountain) style wheels and tires from Balls Out Racing, or, the Nostalgia class rims and tires from RT-HO. They are both too wide for this class!
• Axles - Axles shall not exceed 1-1/8” (1.125”) in length. Any axle material may be used. For example, steel, drill rod, brass, tungsten, stainless steel. You can use spacers inside and outside of the tub on the rear axle.
• Guide pin – stock or any commercial readily available plastic or Delrin T-Jet guide pin
• Maximum width 1-1/8” (1.125”)
• All 4 tires must touch and roll
• Body - Injection molded plastic and Resin bodies only for this class as from Aurora, Dash, Road Race Replicas, MEV or Johnny Lightning/Autoworld etc. NO ONE OFF BODIES ALLOWED. NO Fray style bodies allowed. All bodies must be readily available for purchase. Vintage Trans-Am Series Body ONLY examples Firebird, Camaro, Mustang, Cougar, Cuda Challenger, Dodge Dart, Chevy Nova, Ford Falcon, even a 64 GTO! Fray style bodies are not legal for this class. You may NOT cut out hood or trunk for the purpose of the body mounting below or around the top plate. Please remember the vintage part, as in say, 1963 to 1975! Inside of bodies may be trimmed for clearance and bodies may be lowered. Light trimming of the wheel wells for now. Let's check body fitment and review. All bodies must have front and rear glass included! You may trim the windshield to include the front windshield and rear window. The side windows and top portion of the widow piece may be removed to improve the handling and for oiling. Hint: Dash Camaros are legal even if they don't fit through the tech block. Chassis with rims/tires however must fit through the block.
