Race #15 Randolph Speedway

Randolph ,Nj

21 racers from as far south as Florida and far north as Canada came to do battle at the famous Randolph Raceway complex. Henry Harnish played host to round 15 of the NJHOSCR season. With an open practice session on Friday, many racers showed up to get their cars dialed in for competition.

Trans Am

The Trans Am class took to the big track for the first time this season to do battle. What a battle it was as the top 10 positions being separated by less than 10 laps. With the higher speeds the skinny tires don’t have as much grip as other classes do. The drivers have to have a little more throttle control and it brings out some of the best racing. Three of the top 10 positions would be by the invaders from up north. They put on a great showing, even though they had fewer laps with this type of car.

Indy Car

Garden State Doval Speedway

If any of the drivers thought their patience was being tested in the Trans Am race, they were in for an eye opener with the Indy Cars on the Doval. The Doval will get the best of seasoned veteran racers as it tests both your driving ability and mental as well. Some drivers have been known to with draw from the Races on the Doval before they were completed. Multi car wrecks are common place on the Doval and today was know different. Being patient and steady helps to avoid some of the carnage. The top three drivers on this day were able to do this and were very happy when the races were completed.

Race #14 The New Victory National Raceway

Little Falls, NJ.

The new Brads Tracks raceway was completed in time for Saturdays race with lots of help from Charlie Clohessey and Joe Lupico. You could see the excitement in everyone’s eyes as they came in the door to see the new track for the first time. The tricky layout has two helix on each end. It didn’t take long for everyone to get used to it. The lap times improved with every lap. Donnie Auriema took to the track quickly and we all new he was going to be hard to beat.

Trans Am took to the track first. What a blast these cars are to drive on this layout. Side by side racing was had with each race that hit the track. All the racers adapted fast to the fast helix . It was going to be close at the end to grab a podium spot. Dave Kosch set the bar at 82 laps to beat. Mot Fitzcharles tried his best but came up 2 laps short of Dave’s mark. Still quite tired from the building of the new track, Mot Fitzcharles wasn’t going to be left out from grabbing a win on the new track. His TFX chassis worked to perfection on the new layout. While some of the top runners pitted during each heat to clean their tires, Mot stayed on track driving a steady pace to save his tires. The plan worked in his favor as he would go on to pick up the win. Donnie Auriema would grab his second podium spot of the day and finished second two laps behind. Third place finisher Anthony Zampelli drove a steady race to round out the podium.

The Full Fendered cars always have some banging going on and today would be know different as several cars had incidents. the FFF cars utilize a variety of bodies for the class. One of the most unique would be the 59 Chevrolet Impala run by Charlie Clohessey. Normally Charlie saves this car for the oval races, but decided to give the road course a try with it. Race #12 Great Falls Raceway

Elmwood Park, NJ.

NJHOSCR Made its first start of the season on the Great Falls Raceway oval track. Host Jeff Scott spent many hours installing new guard rails and some scenery around the speedway. Great touches Jeff. Expectations were high for some and not so much for others. As with any oval race track, when you end up coming off you lose valuable track position. It would be know different today as there were many on track incidents that hampered some racers. Trans Am was a fun race to watch as the TA cars run skinny tires and end up broad sliding around the corners as it they were on a dirt track. It was a close battle for the top podium spots as the races were very close. Dave Kosch made his return to victory lane in his beautifully detailed Wiz Jet Camaro. Not far behind the race was even closer. Anthony Zampelli, Davis Singer, John Ciccone and Mot Fitzcharles would all finish on the same lap. it was meer track sections that separated the four drivers. Mot Fitzcharles picked up the second spot over Anthony Zampelli by one track section, followed by David Singer and John Ciccone.

70’s Era Modifieds

The modifieds looked right at home on the oval track as they resemble modified stock cars from the 1970’s. Many of which are painted to resemble some of the stars from that era. The open wheel modifieds had a few more on track incidents than the TA cars did. Several wrecks collected the racers and hampered their results. When the dust had settled. Anthony Zampelli picked up his first win driving a spectacular race and bested the field by 16 laps. Mot Fitzcharles picked up another second place finish followed by John O’brien, who was making his first ever start on the oval. Dave Kosch , Joe Lupico and David Singer all had respectable runs.

Sportsman 1965-1975 era Grand National

The Sportsman class rebodied their cars to resemble the cars that ran in the NASCAR Grand National circuit from 1965-1975. Racers used a variety of different body styles from all the major manufacturers of the day. Once again Dave Kosch drove his Green Dodge Charger to the top podium spot. Dave k. had some tight battles with Anthony Z. The 2 racers worked their way through traffic as best as they could and put on a show. David Singer has been moving up the ladder all season long. Had it not been for a few on track incidents he may have picked up the win.

Driving a spectacular race was Dave Kosch who took the win and top podium spot over Mot F.. Jeff’s cars were tuned just right as each racer raved about the drivability of each car. When it comes to the IROC classes there isn’t anyone better at quickly adapting to each car than Mr. IROC himself Dave Kosch. Dave once again showed the skill and mastery that it takes to drive different cars without any practice time. Dave would best the field by 2 laps enroute to another IROC win. Congatulations to all the racers on a fine showing.

Henry Harnish’s Annual Holiday Race

Randolph, NJ

25 Racers attended the Annual holiday event held at Henry Harnish’s Randolph Raceway complex. The day saw 5 different races on 4 tracks. Henry greeted all the racers with a smile as usual. It’s always a fun time when he hosts an event and today would be know different. There were several first timers to the event, along with many familiar faces. We all look forward to this event as its a little more relaxed than a regular race day. The holiday spirit was definitely in the air. Laughs could be heard through out the day. The excitement started with the IROC vibrator sprint cars on the original vibe layout, as well as the Indy cars on the Garden State Doval. The competition was close with everyone giving their all to pick up a podium spot. The racing then moved on to the Randolph raceway for the IROC vans Supplied by Charlie Clohessey and the Aurora tub track saw the Trans Am class battle it out. The final race of the day would be the Sportsman class on the Randolph Speedway. The races on the Randolph Speedway were live streamed on Facebook by Dave Kosch for all to enjoy. The Sportsman put on a great show, with side by side battles all through the race. In the end it was the 1962 National Champion Henry Harnish picking up the win over the field. Special thanks go out to everyone for making the day a successful and fun day. Shane and Sheldon Heister kept everything running correctly during the IROC races. Charlie Clohessey made sure everyone was signed in. John Ciccone handled the tech procedures. There were a host of others that helped to make it a joyous event. The only hick up was when there was some kind of fumigation happening. Nothing to worry about just glad the alarms didn’t go off. Thank you to all who attended and Happy Hoildays!!!!

Race #1

“Blast”

Donny Auriema and Mot Fitzcharles have a “BLAST” AT annual event!! !

Henry Harnish and NJHOSCR hosted the 21st Annual “Blast”

With 27 racers in attendance it was bound to be an exciting day of racing. The Trans Am class would be the first race of the day, racing on the original Aurora tub track. Right from the start Henry Harnish displayed the skill it took to win the 1962 Grand National Championship. Setting quick times on each lane and setting the mark to beat. With invaders from the north and southeast it was going to be tough to take one of the top spots. Joel Lux, John Teevan and Dony Auriema proved to be up to the challenge. As the results started to tally Donny A. started to distance himself from the field. He would go on to pick up the hard fought win over Pa’s Randy Haydt and Henry Harnish. Rounding out the top 5 would be Joel Lux and John Teevan.

The racing then moved on to the lightning fast Randolph Speedway for the Sportsman class. The racing was fast and exciting as with each round completed it was still anyone’s race to win. With most racers turning laps in the 7 second range it was tough to keep up with who would grab the top spots. Once again it looked like the top 5 would repeat itself. Dave Lockwood was putting up his best laps of the day to grab a top 5 finish rebounding from a disappointing result in the pervious race. Club regular Mot Fitzcharles was on a tear. Turning in some of the fastest laps of the day and Mot would pick up the win over 2nd Donny Auriema and 3rd Henry Harnish.
