Trans Am
The day began with a buzzzzzz during hot laps. It looked as there would bee a shake up in the Trans Am point standings. The final race would bee a killer one for sure. Charlie Clohessey was looking to pick up his first win on the season in the skinny tire class. But he would have to bee t the likes of John Ciccone, Mot Fitzcharles and a host of others to do so. Charlie put up some good totals, some of the best he has all season. John Ciccone wasn't going to bee bee t that easily as he was on a tear in qualifying. It was now time to hit the high banks of the Victory Speedway oval. The popular FFF class put on a heck of a show. There were some close battles on the track that the racers would be talking about for awhile. Dave Kosch has been on or near the top of this class all season with his Nomad bodied car. One racer decided he was going to dedicate a lot of time to his car to beat the everfast Nomad. David Singer was out for the top spot, he was running some impressive laps. He unfortunately fell a little short of his goal. Becoming one of the top runners on the ovals this season, Jeff Scott turned in another podium finish to round out his year. Great run Jeff.

NJHOSCR Race #21
Victory Speedway
Spring Fling
Little Falls, NJ
Victory Speedway hosted the Spring Fling. There were 4 classes running this day and it was anyone's pick as to who would come out on top in each class. With a strong field of racers on hand you knew there were going to be some quick laps turned.
Trans Am
The Trans Am cars took to the speedway first. With their skinny tires they are always a favorite of the drivers. The first racer to complete his rotation was Johnny O'brien, who had put up some quick laps. Johnny was hoping his times would hold up and pick up his first win against some of the veteran racers. One veteran racer who always puts up some good laps on the ovals is Jeff Scott. This day would be know different. If not for one bad segment Jeff might have picked up his first win at Victory Speedway. Contenders David Singer, Anthony Zampelli, John Ciccone, Jimmy Bee and Charlie Clohessey were looking to grab podium spots. As each racer completed his rotation it was clear it was going to be tuff to grab the top spot. With oval ace Dave Kosch missing from the Trans Am race., it left the door open for others to pick up the win. When the dust settled it was Anthony Zampelli taking second and Mot Fitzcharles picking up the win.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 178.14 laps
2-Anthony Zampelli 171.17 laps
3-Jeff Scott 170.12 laps
4-David Singer 170.05 laps

6-Johnny O'brien 166.08 laps
7-Charlie Clohessey 164.11 laps
8-Jimmy Bee 159.16 laps
9-Jeff Crosley 158.17 laps
10-Michael Munno 143.17 laps
Indy Car
Making their return to Victory Speedway were the Indy class cars. These cars really get around the high banked oval and put on some good racing. David Singer is a racer who is never satisfied with finishing at the bottom of the finishing order. He spends a lot of time tuning and tweaking his cars to get the most he can out of them. David has also been helping many racers with their own cars and it has shown in the results. One of his protoge's Johnny O'brien has been moving up the podium getting closer at each event. Johnny O. was the first to complete his rotation and he thought he had put up a good number of laps only to be bumped down as the next racer David Singer top his totals. As racing went on it was going to be close as each racer really put up some good totals. Jeff Crosley looked like he might grab the top spot until the last segment and dropped to third place.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 193.12 laps
2-Anthony Zampelli 190.07 laps
3-Jeff Crosley 183.01 laps

9-John Ciccone 164.07 laps
10-Michael Munno 154.03 laps
Sportsman
(1965-1975 era GN bodies)
With the oval being the only track to run on this day. The Sportsman cars utilized 1965-1975 era Grand National bodies to keep with the oval theme. Let me say these cars were flying around the oval, with some cars turning laps under the 2 second mark. These cars always bring out some close competition, today would be know different. With 7 of the top 10 racers all totaling in the 200+ lap range. There were few wrecks in this class which made it tuff on everyone to grab a top podium spot. John Ciccone turned in a steller drive to pick up the 3rd podium spot just ahead of Anthony Z.. Charlie Clohessey looking to rebound from sub par finishes, really turned up the wick. Turning more than 50+ laps in each of his segments, he was going to be tuff to beat. Mot Fitzcharles who was the last racer to get on the track looked like his car would have the speed it needed to pick up the win and hand Charlie Clohessey a second place finish. Mot F. would end up picking up the win over Charlie Clohessey by 3 laps. Rounding out the podium would be John Ciccone.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 221.03 laps
2-Charlie Clohessey 218.04 laps
3-John Ciccone 213.21 laps
4-Anthony Zampelli 212.05 laps

9-Jimmy Bee 199.01 laps
10-Jeff Scott 195.15 laps
11-Michael Munno 189.16 laps
Outlaw Late Model
Rounding out the day would be the Outlaw Late Model class. These cars are crazy fast and are hard to drive and marshall. Rookie Michael Munno is still learning the ups and downs of racing, but not for his lack of trying. He wasn't sure what to expect from his Late Model car so he drove his best to keep it in between the rails and get some experience. He turned in a respectable finish for the first time on the speedway. Jimmy Bee was having a decent day of racing also. turning in some of his best runs of the season on the tricky oval. It only takes a few wrecks to put you behind the eight ball and have to run your a$$ off to try and make it up. With one segment left to go there were two racers that were neck and neck for the top spot. with both racers being on the track at the same time it made for some tense moments. Both drivers gave it their all and it was close at the end. David Singer came up one lap short of picking up his first win on the high banks.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 213.23 laps
2-David Singer 212.14 laps
3-Anthony Zampelli 206.16 laps
4-Dave Kosch 197.17 laps
5-Johnny O'brien 193.07 laps
6-Jeff Crosley 190.16 laps
7-Charlie Clohessey 183.05 laps
8-Michael Munno 176.14 laps
9-Jimmy Bee 175.11 laps
10-Jeff Scott 165.10 laps
11-John Ciccone 155.03 laps
What a great fun day of racing it was. Be sure to check our schedule for info on our final event of the season. Hope to see you there.
Race #20 Great Falls Raceways
Elmwood Park,NJ
With the season winding down the NJHOSCR racers headed to Great Falls Raceway for a fun and challenging day of racing. With only 2 races left on the season the points battles are heating up in every division. Vinny Guardino (still visiting from Fla.) was looking to pick up one of the podium spots before heading down south. Along with Vinny G., we had 2 new racers attending their first NJHOSCR race of the season. Michael Munno and Steven joined the club regulars to tackle the GFR.
Trans Am
Starting off the day was the Trans Am class. As the racers took to the track surface. It looked like veteran racer Jeff Crosley might pick up his first win on the season Turning in some of the fastest laps in class and putting up some great laps. He was one of only a few to turn in 30+laps on each lane. Not to be out done, Anthony Zampelli really had his car dialed in as he would best Jeff by only one lap. Club standout Mot Fitzcharles was pushing his car to its limits. As he was the only other driver to turn in 30+ laps in each heat race as well. When the dust had settled it was Jeff Crosley picking up a third place podium finish. Second would go to Anthony Zampelli and Mot Fitzcharles would pick up the win.

Sportsman
This class put on the closest races of the day as several positions were settled by meer inches and lap times. The top finishing positions were hotly contested. As drivers began finishing there races it was going to be to close to call until the last laps were turned. Charlie Clohessey looked like he would grab a podium finish until, he was caught up in a few wrecks. He hung on for a respectable finish in class. As the results were being tabulated, it was clear that this was going to be a close one. With 4 drivers within striking distance of the top spots. Both Jeff Crosley and Anthony Zampelli finished with the same amount of laps and track sections. 160.18 laps. The tie breaker would be who turned in the fastest lap of the two. it would go to Anthony Z. by thousands of a second over Jeff C. Joe Toscano turned in another stellar drive to grab the third podium spot. The top spot was also close as Dave Kosch and Mot Fitzcharles both turned in 170 laps. Thin win would go to Mot F. by a meer 2 track sections.

70's Era Modifieds
After a brief lunch and track change it was time for the mighty modifieds to hit the speedway. Several racers have been making big strides in their car building. David Singer and Charlie Clohessey spent a lot of time getting their cars set up to their liking and it showed in the results. This was the first time for everyone on the oval and no one knew what to expect. With the cars turning in laps around the 2 second mark it was going to be a tough class to marshall. Several drivers took to the oval like it was second nature as others had their hands full. Anthony Zampelli was one such driver who clearly outclassed the rest of the field, by picking up the win easily with a 10 lap lead over second place. Charlie Clohessey turned in an outstanding drive to pick up second over Mot Fitzcharles and David Singer.
1-Anthony Zampelli 214.11 laps

Outlaw Late Models
Last up on the day was the Outlaw Late Model class. Everyone knew going in that this was going to be a hard fought battle for driver and marshall. Turning laps under 2 seconds makes things happen fast. As noted earlier some guys have really figured out how to set up their cars. This was the case in David Singer. He has spent a lot of time testing and it showed as he would out class a stellar field of racers. Making a nice rebound from the other classes was Vinny Guardino. He drove a steady race to finish in the top 5. The Outlaw Late Models Really keep you alert when driving, as they require good concentration and reflexes to do well. That and avoiding getting caught up in wrecks.

Race #19 Victory National Raceways
Little Falls, NJ
Victory National Raceway hosted race #19 on the NJHOSCR season. Hosting races on both the road course and the oval meant for some exciting racing action. With a surprise racer on hand. Vinny Guardino was up north visiting, sporting his Southern tan he was excited to be back on track. After practice and a brief drivers meeting, the racers took to the road course looking to dethrone this seasons top Trans Am winner John Ciccone. John has been on a tear this season in the class and was looking to pick up a win again. Charlie Clohessey and Anthony Zampelli were both looking to put a stop to John’s dominance. It looked like they both would have a shot at the top spot after turning in some great runs. That is until John took to the raceway and started to put up some great numbers of his own as the races concluded. Mot Fitzcharles was also looking to top John for the #1 position. Though he would put up good numbers he would fall short of his goal. Picking up another win would be John Ciccone.
1-John Ciccone 67.40 laps 2-Mot Fitzcharles 65.29 laps 3-Charlie Clohessey 64.33 laps
4-Anthony Zampelli 64.35 laps 5-Jeff Crosley 63.04 laps 6-Joe Lupico 62.34 laps
7-David Singer 61.37 laps 8-Johnny O’brien 60.45 laps 9-Vinny Guardino 55.20 laps
Sportsman
The sportsman race would be a different story as John Ciccone had a bulls eye on his back and I don’t meen Red Bull. To say that Charlie Clohessey has been one of the most consistent drivers this season is an understatement. He has been on the podium on just about every race day. Today would be know different as he would claim the runner up spot handily over Anthony Zampelli and the rest of the field. Mot Fitzcharles continues his run towards another point championship by picking up the win.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 91.14 laps 2-Charlie Clohessey 86.47 laps 3-Anthony Zampelli 83.25 laps
4-Johnny O’brien 81.35 laps 5-David Singer 79.15 laps 6-Jeff Crosley 79.03 laps
7-Vinnie Guardino 76.49 laps 8-John Ciccone 76.45 laps 9-Joe Lupico 73.02 laps
10-Jeff Scott 72.44 laps
Victory Speedway Oval
70’s era Modifieds
Making their return to Victory Speedway were the 70’s era Modifieds. Everyone one was excited to hit the track with there cars and see who could come out on top. With the races being 2 minutes each it was going to be a real barn burner especially for the marshalls. As the race results started to come in, it looked to be a close finish. Jeff Scott who has left his mark on the club over the years as being one of the best marshalls and consistent racers had an outstanding race, as he would pick up the second podium spot for one of his best finishes to date. Jeff is always quick to lend a hand or fill in when needed drove a phenomenal race. David Singer who is always trying new things to improve on his finishes also had a great run in the modifieds.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 199.04 laps 2-Jeff Scott 193.16 laps 3-Charlie Clohessey 192.04 laps

7-John Ciccone 181.20 laps 8-Jeff Crosley 179.04 laps 9-Vinny Guardino 177.19 laps
Outlaw Late Models
The Outlaw Late Models have become a driver favorite and a marshalls nightmare. Turning laps around the 2 second mark keeps both driver and marshall on their toes. It only takes a crash or two to put a driver behind the eight ball and take themselves out of competition. Some drivers have taken to a more defensive driving style rather than take the risk of losing laps. As the lap totals started to tally, it looked like the podium was going to have a different look. As David Singer has become one to watch on the fast oval track. He was the only other racer to be in the 200 lap mark. His cars are getting increasingly faster along with his ever improving driving abilities.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 214.04 laps 2-David Singer 209.07 laps 3-Anthony Zampelli 199.04 laps
4-Johnny O’brien 197.23 laps 5-Vinny Guardino 195.18 laps 6-John Ciccone 189.06 laps

It was great to have Vinny Guardino racing with us again. Hopefully he can make it up north again to knock off some of the rust. please be sure to check our website for upcoming races. www.northjerseyhoscr.com
Race #18 Full Circle Raceway
Saddle Broook, NJ
Race #18 took place at Full Circle Raceway in Saddle Brook,NJ.
An eager bunch of racers took to the challenging raceway for hot laps. It was clear from the start who was the guy to beat come race time, as John Ciccone has had a strangle hold on one division at his raceway.
Trans Am
Racing got under way after a brief drivers meeting. David Singer has been on an upward swing as of late, turning in some good efforts in all classes. His building skills are getting better and it is showing in his finishes. David had a good run in Trans Am, if not for a couple crashes he would have been up on the podium. Racing was close for all competitors except for one. John Ciccone has been on a tare this season in the class and today was no different. He put up a stellar run and picked up the win once again. Not for lack of effort, the rest of the field was pretty closely bunched up. Johnny O. has slowly been working his way up the ladder as he had a nother good finish.

After picking up the win in Trans Am, John Ciccone was looking to make it 2 in a row. Unfortunately for him the rest of the field had other ideas. Joe Toscano turned in a great run in his Fairgrounds car putting up a mark to beat. Dave Kosch , whom is always in the hunt for the win in any class, Bested Joe’s finish by one lap. In the end it was Mot Fitzcharles picking up the win with a great drive.

Both racers took to the speedway with a point to prove and that they did with both drivers turning in respectable finishes. Continuing his rise up the ladder was Joe Toscano, turning in a great run for another podium finish. Dave Kosch drove a great race to grab the top podium spot over Mot Fitzcharles.

Race #17 Randolph Raceways
Randolph, NJ
Trans Am
20 racers from far and wide, showed up at Henry Harnish’s Randolph Raceways to compete for top laurels. For some racers, it would be a 2 day event as Randy Haydt hosted his annual St. Patrick’s Day event the following day. The Trans Am class took to the Randolph Speedway for the first time in a couple years. These cars are just as fast down the straight aways as the Sportsman class but don’t have the handling, as they are only 1 1/8” wide and on skinny tires. There was a lot of action on the track as everyone looked to tame the track and grab one of the top three spots. Henry Harnish showed why he is called the “Champ” as he picked up the win over Donny Auriema by meer track sections. Rounding out the podium was John Ciccone turning in a splendid drive.

Outlaw Late Models
The Garden State Dovel hosted the OLM for only the second time and it showed as both racers and marshalls had a difficult time on the Dovel. The speed of the late models on the oval is insane, turning laps in the 2 second bracket was common for many racers. Once again Henry Harnish was a top the podium followed by Mot Fitzcharles and rounding out the podium driving the immaculate looking black TMC #1 Wiz Jet was Dave Kosch. Having another good showing was Donnie Auriema placing fourth. As Marc Sevrier placed another top ten finish making the long trek down from Canada worth the trip.

Many of the racers were looking to better their results from the previous classes. One of those drivers was Joe Toscano who has been very consistent this season in the Sportsman class. Elmwood Park,NJ
NJHOSCR made its first trip to the new Great Falls Raceway. Excitement was in the air, as the racers showed how racy the track was after the first round of practice. It didn’t take long for everyone to get used to the raceway as it was very racer friendly. As always Trans Am would be the first class to hit the raceway for competition. As it turned out Jeff Scott was the first racer to put up a total on the board. He set the mark for all to beat. As each racer finished, the totals would climb and new track records would be made. David Singer and Charlie Clohessey would raise the bar as each race was completed. John Ciccone looked to be the favorite to win after he topped the field with 133 laps. He has been on a tare this season in the Trans Am class and was one of the favorites to grab the top spot. Having a good season in the Trans Am class was Mot Fitzcharles. When the dust had settled Mot F. had picked up the top podium spot followed closely by John C.and Charlie C.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 136.07 laps 2-John Ciccone 133.25 laps 3-Charlie Clohessey 127.04 laps
4-David Singer 126.18 laps 5-Jeff Crosley 122.06 laps 6-Joe Toscano 118.31 laps
7-Jeff Scott 118.07 laps
TFX
The popular TFX class hit the track next. With these cars being raced stock it makes for some close fun racing. Don’t be fooled these cars are fastttt and you need to have some discipline to click off some consistent laps. The lap time were significantly quicker than the TA cars. One Racer who likes this class in particular is David Singer. He seems to have found them very much to his liking. Jeff Crosley who has been moving up the ladder this season, has also shown to be able to turn in some great runs. Both David and Jeff C. turned in one of their best finishes of the season as the both grabbed podium spots with consistent runs. Charlie Clohessey also has shown to be a threat to win in every class he runs. He has made more than one driver look his way each time out.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 147.18 laps 2-David Singer 141.08 laps 3-Jeff Crosley 136.08 laps
4-Charlie Clohessey 135.05 laps 5-Joe Toscano 126 .24 laps 6-John Ciccone 121.22 laps
7-Jeff Scott 108.01 laps
Sportsman
It was time for the class that most were eagerly awaiting. There were going to be some quick laps turned for sure, as everyone had their cars tuned and ready for action. Boy was there action. Both on the track and off as one unfortunate racer ended up clearing the catch fence and landing outside the track. Recent hot shoe Joe Toscano was looking to continue his good finishes in the class. He would be the first to complete his runs and set the mark to beat. Well he set the bar pretty high for everyone as his totals would be on top right down to the last race. One racer has been on top of the podium most races and today would be no different. Mot Fitzcharles continued to show why he is one of the guys to beat. With only having a couple offs the entire race he would go on to grab the top spot over Joe T.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 174.17 laps 2-Joe Toscano 167.18 laps 3-Dave Kosch 165.07 laps
4-Charlie Clohessey 160.02 laps 5-Jeff Crosley 154.24 laps 6-David Singer 152.15 laps

Race #15 Lafayette Raceway
Jimmy B. played host to round 15 on the season. The classes for the day were, Trans Am, Full Fender Fairgrounds and Sportsman. Trans Am was the first class of the day, with class hot shoe John Ciccone not present it left the door open for all 3 podium spots. Charlie Clohessey was the first racer to set the mark for the podium. As more racers finished it was clear that it was going to be close. It was so close that 2nd and third positions were separated by 1 track section. The last racer to hit the track was Mot Fitzcharles, who was looking to regain the form he had shown early on in the season. After putting up the best lap total on the black lane everyone knew it was a race for second and third. Mot did indeed pick up the win with Anthony Zampelli grabbing second place by 1 track section over Charlie Clohessey.

7-David Singer 86.09 laps 8-Jeff Scott 81.22 laps
Full Fender Fairgrounds
The popular Full Fender Fairgrounds class made its return to the Lafayette Raceway. The action in this class is so close. With the cars all being a spec. chassis, it really takes a lot to get them running up to par. With late racer Dave Kosch joining in the race, it was going to be tough to keep him off the podium as he is one of the top racers to pull a trigger. With very little crashing it looked to be a close finish for all. One racer in particular was looking to improve on his last finish with the class. Jeff Crosley running one of the cars out of Mot Fitzcharles stable, looked like the racer of old. Each lap he turned was better than the last. if it weren’t for getting caught up in a few accidents he would have picked up the top podium spot. Driving his blue Pepsi sponsored Camaro Mot Fitzcharles was laying down some of the quickest laps of the day. When the racing was completed it was Mot F. grabbing the top spot over Dave Kosch and Jeff Crosley.

Sportsman
After a delicious lunch break, the Sportsman cars to to the lightning fast raceway. Late Arriving Doc Cosel showed that he was going to be a contender, even though he wasn’t able to get in any practice laps. Jeff Scott seamed to be on a mission to improve his finishing orders on the day. He turned in some of the best laps of the day. As the last set of racers took to the raceway there was a bone jarring crash right before the finish line, which took out Dave Kosch’s car. After a brief red flag racing resumed with Mot Fitzcharles getting the hat trick on the day. Turning in a terrific drive and picking up the second spot was Doc Cosel, followed by Anthiny Zampelli in third.

Race #14 Eighty Eight Raceway
Johnny Obrien hosted his first event under the NJHOSCR banner. With a good turnout, it was going to be tough to see whom the first podium finishers would be. Hot laps proved to be challenging as everyone was looking for the hot setup. After a quick drivers meeting, racing was set to begin. The Trans Am class would be the first of the day. The competition was fierce and challenging. John Ciccone again set atop the podium with a great run.

TFX What can be said about this class. It is becoming a club favorite amongst the racers. Running them bone stock has made it challenging for the best seasoned racers. Once again a familiar name sat atop the podium as Dave Kosch became the first winner in class at 88 raceway.

Race #12 Full Circle Raceway
Race 12 of the NJHO season brought us back again to Full Circle Raceway for the first time in 2024. Poor weather and some other seasonal wrinkles kept the driver count low for this round unfortunately. That winter head count allowed us some flexibility, however, to run more classes than usual. We filled the heck out of that bonus time with two additional IROC sets; the first, a classic set of Dom Leone built '59 Impala's, the other, a newer set of buttery smooth Greg Wisniewski built '69 Camaros.
The Johnny Lightning Impalas hadn't been run at all in several years, spending most of that time cooped up in Tommy Kosch's pit box. After just a few minor tweaks though, they were heaving around the track like the small boats they were meant to be. The cars themselves were still very fast, but those super-wide horizontal tailfins made them list hard to both port and starboard in every turn. We ran those Impalas right after our rail-glued Sportsman class, which made the transition to boat racing, on our most difficult track, even more difficult. All that extra marshalling made for probably the most fun class of the day I think; a testament to Dom's incredible building skills. I'm glad we got a chance to run them on his birthday though. I hope we get a chance to run those boats together with the old man sometime soon. Happy Birthday, Dominic Leone.

Having completed that first IROC class around 1pm, the fourth race of the day, we decided to hold off going back to our 1:1 lives a little longer by running round number five. We'd use a set of IROC Camaros that our host, John Ciccone, purchased from Greg W. just before splitting from Halloween Havoc last November. These sons of guns were made with good-handling Dash chassis' and have Camaro bodies bolted on top that were purpose built to NOT capsize...unlike the SS Minnows we raced a few minutes earlier. If you didn't already know, Mr. Wisniewski builds some pretty godam good race cars. These breezy Camaros ran fast and even, with lap counts higher all around. With the four previous rounds' experience behind us, that sort of leveled the field a bit and brought the results much closer, with 7 laps separating top from bottom.

In stark contrast to the final round's relatively close finish, the day's opener would be dominated, yet again, by the Trans-Am Tarantula, John C. The host's home-track advantage, paired with a Teevan bullet chassis and a spooky Mot painted Camaro body, torched the field easily. Mot finished second, 3 laps behind in his bacon colored #81 Camaro. Tommy was able to pick up the T/a win one race prior at his own home track, thanks of course to John C. being totally not there. Mot's Baconator was no match for John going head-to-head this time though. The rest of the field didn't fare as well either. Dave K. finished 3 laps further back from Tommy, then Dave Singer and Jeff Crosley rounding out the top five.

We turned the page on another Trans-Am domination and ran a quick round of open-body TFX next. TFX is a staple at Full Circle Raceway with consistently close races. The first TFX rotation in particular had Dave K. and John C. doorhandle-to-doorhandle for almost the entire three minutes. The Tarantula's sportsman car was clearly one of the fastest TFX cars in the field. If he was able to continue using his sportsman car in the TFX round he may have pulled off a second consecutive win. Unfortunately, the problem with running your sportsman car in the TFX division is that your not really allowed to run your sportsman car in the TFX division. To John's credit, he realized that he grabbed the incorrect car (his TFX and Sportsman both wearing almost identical red Ferrari bodies) and conceded the round while keeping his lanes occupied for the remaining heats...with his TFX car.

Last Saturday was an incredible day of racing. Huge thanks to John Ciccone for hosting and letting us use those fabulous Greg W IROC Camaros. NJHO's next round will be at Jimmy Bee's super fast Lafayette Speedway the Saturday after next. We hope to see you there.
Race #11 Victory National Raceways
Saturday December 30, 2023
The last race day of the year 2023. As the NJHOSCR racers were getting ready to bid 2023 a farewell, there was one order of business left. Victory Raceway and Speedway hosted the final event of the year. A good field of racers were on hand to tackle both tricky tracks. The day had a couple new faces show up and a bunch of familiar ones as well. After a quick drivers meeting races began on time.
Trans Am
Trans Am class would start off the day. What would turn out to be one of the tightest grouped results in NJHOSCR history, all racers being separated by only 7 laps. It was anyone’s guess as to who would come out at the top of the podium. New comer JP was the first of the final racers to put up the top number to beat. He was turning in some quick laps, you wouldn’t have known it was his first appearance here. As each heat race finished there was a new total on top. When the dust settled it was track host Mot Fitzcharles picking up the close win.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 48.48 laps 2-Dave Kosch 74.30 laps 3-Doc Cosel 46.21 laps
4-JP 45.29 laps 5-Anthony Zampelli 44.25 laps 6-Joe Toscano 44.13 laps
7-Johnny O. 43.36 laps 8-David Singer 43.21 laps 9-Ed Shultz 42.42 laps
10-Joe Lupico 42.20 laps 11-Jeff Scott 41.43 laps
Sportsman
Once all the results were tabulated and announced it was time for the Sportsman class to take to the raceway. The racers were all looking to move up in the results from the last races. One driver in particular has been steadily showing he is a force to be reckoned with. Joe Toscano is starting to be a regular on the podium and this day would be no different, as he would grab another podium finish to continue his hot streak. The battle for the top podium spot was pretty heated as Mot Fitzcharles and Dave Kosch both drove as hard as they could to grab the win. Again on this day it would be Mot F. taking top laurels with Dave Kosch finishing a close second.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 61.25 laps 2-Dave Kosch 60.48 laps 3-Joe Toscano 59.25 laps
4-Doc Cosel 57.35 laps 5-Anthony Zampelli 56.34 laps 6-Johnny O. 55.30 laps
7-Ed Shultz 54.03 laps 8-JP 52.40 laps 9-David Singer 51.04 laps
10-Joe Lupico 48.35 laps 11-Jeff Scott 47.47 laps
Full Fender Fairgrounds
After a delicious lunch break, the Full Fender Fairgrounds cars took to the ever fast Victory Speedway. When you talk about the high banked oval its anyone’s guess as to who will turn out on top of the podium spots. It takes a great handling car and a lot of good luck to win on the speedway. The FFF would be no different. After sustaining a little front end damage in the opening laps of his first heat race, Dave Kosch would rebound to grab the top spot. New comer Ed Shultz showed some flare grabbing the second spot, while Anthony Z. grabbed the final podium spot.
1-Dave Kosch 200.00 laps 2-Ed Shultz 188.02 laps 3-Anthony Zampelli 186.03 laps
4-Mot Fitzcharles 184.19 laps 5-Doc Cosel 184.13 laps 6-JP 179.22 laps
7-Johnny O. 173.13 laps 8-David Singer 172.23 laps 9-Jeff Scott 167.20 laps
Outlaw Late Models
The Outlaw Late Models are fast becoming a favorite of the racers. Johnny O. would be the first racer to put up numbers. It looked like he might have enough to hold onto the top spot. That is until Doc Cosel pulled onto the track. Doc was setting a blistering pace with near record lap times. When he had completed all his races he had stunned the field of racers by besting Johnny O.’s total by 10 laps. It looked like it was going to be Doc’s day on top in the class. The last driver to hit the track was Mot Fitzcharles in his black Monster energy #00. After finishing off the podium in the previous class, Mot was determined to grab the win. He would go on to best Doc Cosel by 2 laps. Handing Doc his best finish in the class to date.
1-Mot Fitzcharles 217.05 laps 2-Doc Cosel 215.04 laps 3-Johnny O. 205.03 laps
4-David Singer 201.05 laps 5-Dave Kosch 199.01 laps 6-Anthony Zampelli 195.04 laps
7-Ed Shultz 192.16 laps 8-Jp 183.01 laps 9- Jeff Scott 179.06 laps
The NJHOSCR would like to send their deepest sympathies to Charlie Clohessey and family, on the passing of his mother.
That’s a wrap for the 2023 portion of the season as all members look ahead to the new year with high hopes of doing better in the standings.
Be sure to check our website for info on upcoming events.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Race #10 Full Circle Raceway
Saddle Brook, NJ’s Full Circle Raceway hosted round 10 of the NJHOSCR racing season.
Classes for the day would be Trans Am, Sportsman and the return of the open wheel 70’s modifieds to a road course. Racers were gunning for a driver who has been on a tear in the Trans Am class this season, John Ciccone. Who was looking to uphold his strong hold on the class. Early on Anthony Zampelli looked like he would be the one to unseat John. He turned in a steller drive to set the mark to beat. Hoping to grab the top spots John Ciccone, Doc LaMarta and Mot Fitzcharles all had other ideas, as the trio of racers pushed their cars to the edge. When the dust settled the results would remain the same as John Ciccone picking up the win on his home turf.

70’s era Modifieds
For the first time in many seasons the Modifieds took to a road course. Racing the Modifieds on the road course made for some exciting racing as these cars are more at home running on an oval track. The competition was very close as the top three finishers were separated by a meer seven track sections. All the racers did a fine job getting the cars around the tight corners. At the checkers it was Dave Kosch picking up the win over Charlie Clohessey and Mot Fitzcharles. Having good runs in the division were Joe Lupico, Dave Singer and Vinny Guardino who was making his final start as a regular with the club.

Sportsman
The final race of the day was the sportsman class. This was to be the shocker of the afternoon, as one driver in particular would set himself above the rest as a result of some fantastic driving. Joe Toscano showed that his recent surge in the standings was no fluke as he bested the field of 13 racers on the tricky track. Everyone knew Joe T. was having a great run as he avoided many wrecks and fall offs on his way to his first win this season. Rounding out the podium were Mot Fitzcharles and Anthony Z.

Shoot Out
Saturday December 9
Donnie Auriema hosted the first annual Shoot Out. 17 racers from both clubs showed up for an exciting day of racing. The action started out with an IROC race with cars supplied by Ed Shultz. The cars were tuned perfectly for the Raider Raceway. Running 2 minute heats everyone made sure to limit the amount of crashes to get the most out of each race. The race for first in the class was tight as the top 3 drivers all finished with the same amount of laps. It would be decided by track sections. Donnie Auriema, Dave Kosch and Victor Quinones all ended up with 54 laps.
Trans Am
The Trans Am class ran on Donnies immaculately prepared tub track. Times were nearing the 4 second range for all the racers. The action was intense and the martials were on their toes. Guys from each club turned in steller drives throughout the field. When the dust settled, it was Trans Am hot shoe John Ciccone besting Donnie Auriema by 2 laps. Mot Fitzcharles rounded out the podium with a nice 3rd place finish.
Sportsman
After a delicious lunch that was provided by Donnies wife and family, everyone needed a nap. Racing got underway with the clubs final event of the afternoon. Raider Raceway proved to be quite racey and there were some spectacular crashes and racing. It was the first time most of the NJHOSCR racers had visited Donnies and found out that they were going to have to pull the belts down tightly and get up on the wheel to grab a podium spot. The surprise of the class was, Randy J Haydt besting the 17 car field of racers, but not by much as both clubs had stellar drives as the top 10 were only separated by 6 laps.

Race #9 Randolph Raceways
Holiday Extravaganza
Henry Harnish hosted his annual Holiday race presented by NJHOSCR. What a great turnout for Henry’s annual race. Racers came from far and wide to spend a Sunday in December to celebrate this event. Its always a pleasure to be able to race with “The Champ”. He opens up his home to anyone that would like to come out for a fun filled day of racing in 5 classes on 4 different tracks. Each class presents it’s own challenges. The day started off with everyone being split into two groups so that the day moves along. The original qualifying layout with IROC vibe cars with sprint car bodies is always a blast. Using the original Aurora steering wheel controllers makes it a fun race for everyone. At the same time the Garden State Doval hosted the Indy car class. There was such great racing, that it was hard to guess who would come out on top. After a quick lunch featuring NY style pizza it was time to hit the next two races. The Randolph Speedway was utilizing the IROC VW busses on TFX chassis done by Charlie Clohessey. The Trans Am class using the original Aurora tub track ran in conjunction with the IROC race. There were steller drives and laughs by everyone. The last event of the afternoon were Sportsman cars on the Randolph Speedway. To say the action was hot and heavy is an understatement. Utilizing 2 minute heat races, you had to be on the throttle from the word GO! At the end of the day everyone left with a smile and a story about the days events.

Also a big thanks to everyone who attended. Be sure to check our schedule for future race events. Merry Christmas from us at NJHOSCR to everyone.
Race #8 Full Circle Raceway
What a fun day of racing at the Saddle Brook speed plant. With a great field of racers on hand, you knew it was going to be tough to make the podium in all classes. John Ciccone had a great day defending his home track, with podium finishes in all 3 classes. Dave Singer, Vinny Guardino and Johnny O are proving to be a threat in each class they run. Doc Cosel and Charlie Clohessey are consistently finishing in the top half of the field on regular occasions.
Trans Am
#31 John Ciccone with his WizJet chassised Camaro picked up the win, by putting on a clinic on his home track. Everyone else would have to settle for the last 2 podium spots, after John put up the only triple digit total in the class.

Race #7 Lafayette Raceway
Lafayette Raceway hosted round #7 of the season. The first class of the day was Trans Am. A favorite amongst the racers, the action on track was close. It seemed that everyone was reaching for the top podium spots as there were few offs by the drivers. Track host Jimmy B. set the pace for the day as he turned in his best performance of the season. As the totals were coming in it appeared to be a very tight race for the top.
Trans Am
1-Mot Fitzcharles 96.41 laps 2-Johny O. 90.36 laps 3-Jimmy B. 90.13 laps

10-Bob LaMarta 86.05 laps 11-Doc Cosel 85.19 laps 12- Vinny Guardino 81.13 laps
The Indy Cars produced some more close action. This was the first time we used a different format for racing, as racers were put into groups of 4 and ran through all the lanes. The drivers seamed to enjoy it and it showed in the results. Once again Host Jimmy B. showed some flash and picked up his second podium finish of the afternoon.

10-Dave Singer 87.13 laps 11-Vinny Guardino 86.05 laps
Our last class of the day was the sportsman cars. It was some hard nosed racing as Dave Kosch made it for the final class of the day and grabbed on of the podium spots. Anthony Z. is becoming a regular fixture on the podium as he drove another fantastic race.

it was a great day of racing and thanks to all for coming out to compete.
Our next event has been moved to a different day, date and location. The next race is at Victroy Speedway for the Oval Fall Nationals on SUNDAY October 8,2023. Check our schedule page for full details.
We returned to Tommy Kosch’s VNR barn for the first time last Saturday, with some new amenities and the familiar old road course still in place, waiting for us to plow through for the first time this season. There were some soft plans to replace ol’ curvy with a new, polished Bowman road course at the end of last season. Those plans were not addressed however because of some timing issues and more likely due to what the kids these days call “the feels”.
The former Cedar Falls Speedway is one of the oldest regular use tracks in our arsenal. Certainly not older than Henry Harnish’s Aurora tub track, but just as old and familiar as the Lamarta family’s high-speed Franklin Motor Speedway; both NJHO pillars. Victory National road course was first owned by veteran slot racer Jeff Crosley, located in central New Jersey. Some time later it found its way further north, to Dominic Leone’s Cedar Grove, New Jersey home, where it grew roots, developed a few new curves and became the first official race course for the North Jersey H.O. Slot Car Racing family. CFS stood its post well for many years, hosting a hundred incredibly fun T-jet races along the way. When Dominic relocated to Arizona in 2018, Tommy Kosch adopted Cedar Falls Raceway and moved her to his own home, just two miles away. Today the track shares a modest space in Mot’s super-functional race garage with a newer high-banked oval that’s perched ten feet overhead. It’s named after what is now Orange County Fair Speedway, where we spent most, if not every one of, our summer weekends as kids. OCFS was named Victory Speedway when motor racing resumed in Middletown, NY, after the second world war ended. Many years later, Victory Speedway is still rocking and rolling on Saturdays, albeit in a smaller, air-conditioned, surround sound, multi-track mini church.
On that church-like note…
Class 1/4 - Trans-Am / Road Course
The flock returned to Little Falls, NJ last Saturday, motivated and ready to run after two very successful shows at Henry Harnish’s T-jet mecca in Randolph, NJ. Spirits were high still and the momentum carried over into our first class of the day, road course Trans-Am.
John Ciccone started fast in his biohazard green number 31, getting through all lanes first and setting the bar high with 47 total laps. Doc “feliz cumpleanos” Cosel hit the track running just as John C. completed his last heat and laid down another 47 in his Johnny Manziel inspired brown number 2 “turd-stang” (Dave Singer’s words, not mine). Doc finished with more track sections than JC, moving him into first for the time being. Mot and Dave K. hopped on last as Doc cleared his final heat, to close out the round. Dave was able to get his chin over the 47 lap bar, barely (+4 track sections), while Mot Verstappen somehow managed to get around VNR twice more than Dave, John C. and Doc’s Manziel-mobile. The final order was close as usual, with just 7 laps separating the top and bottom of the results, 49-42. Johnny O. bowled that impressive 42 in his first T/a run at VNR, almost catching and beating Dave Singer in a car he borrowed…from Dave Singer.
– Trans-Am Results / Road Course –
Mot Verstappen - 49
Doc Cosel - 47.35
John Ciccone - 47.34
Dave Kosch - 47.4
Robert LaMarta - 44.21
David Singer - 44.16
Charlie Clohessey - 44.3
Jeff Scott - 43.4
Vinny Guardino - 43.1
Johnny O. - 42
Class 2/4 - Sportsman / Road Course
Sportsman class cars hit the pavement next, this time Charlie Clohessey came out firing in his classic blue and yellow Fruit of the Loom #5. Charlie finished his rotation with a solid 56 laptop total. That high mark lasted only two rotations however, as Doc Cosel’s chauffeured his classy brown and orange Karmann Ghia right past Charlie, with 59 total laps. Mot finished a few rounds later one lap better than the Doctor, thanks to a plus one score (16 laps to Doc’s 15) in the blue candy lane, for a four round total of 60. Unfortunately for Tommy, Dave K. also one-upped the field in his last two segments, turning in 16’s in both the white and blue middle lanes, for a total of 61 and the class win.
We settled the race results quickly this time, thanks to the absence of any lap total ties. Best laps were recorded, pictures were taken and Tommy hustled out of his driveway, still in Sportsman mode, to grab two extremely unhealthy Sun-Ray Sicilian pies.
– Sportsman Results / Road Course –
Dave K. - 61
Mot Fitzcharles - 60
Doc Cosel - 59
Charlie Clohessey - 56
Bob Lamarta - 55
John Ciccone - 54.18
Vinny Guardino - 54.13
Johnny O. - 53
Dave Singer - 52
Jeff Scott - 51
Class 3/4 - 70’s DIRT Modifieds / Victory Speedway Oval
Everybody knows DIRT modifieds don’t have door handles. At Victory Speedway t-jet racing oval however, they do materialize in 64th scale when the green flag drops. Oval modified heats start and end with extremely close racing, probably because of the slightly slower speed (compared to our Outlaw rocket class) and often finds drivers door-handle to door-handle to door-handle to door-handle for long stretches at a time. I cannot overstate how much fun this class this. If the Sportsman cars on the road course is a technical chess match, then the Fairgrounds Modifieds on the oval is just a blatant hand grenade fight. If you can keep your cool and avoid the impact craters, you might find yourself close to the top.
Doc Cosel, again, put up the first high score after clearing the yellow gutter lane with 181 laps. The final minute of Doc’s yellow lane run was spent with Dave Singer in his hip pocket; in one of the more entertaining races of the day. The doctor won that battle with Mr. Singer but Dave would top Doc’s yellow lane total in the very next heat, bumping him down a podium step. Bob Lamarta, driving his swanky purple Rolls Royce sedan, leapfrogged both Doc and Dave next, completing a 186 lap run just two minutes later. The dominoes continued to fall as Mr. Fitzcharles jumped on and dialed up a 188 lap total next; spoiling Bob’s terrific run. Dave K. tried to continue the trend when his next heat started but came up just short (186), leaving Mot at the top of the heap, his second class win of the day. Kudos to Dave Singer and to Jeff Scott as well for their strong finishes.
– 70’s Modifieds Results / Oval –
Mot Pauch - 188
Bob Lamarta - 186.4
Dave K. - 186.3
Dave Singer - 181.15
Doc Cosel - 181.4
Jeff Scott - 173
Vinny Guardino - 171
Johnny O. - 168
John Ciccone - 167
Charlie Clohessey - 165
Class 4/4 - Outlaw Late Models / Victory Speedway Oval
The dangerously fast Outlaw Late Models class lined up next, in the same order as we had used for the three previous 2-minute rounds. Once again, Doc Cosel came out swinging for the fences. Mr. Karmann Ghia was able to steer through the wreckage and collect 209 total laps after 4 heats. Bob Lamarta, motivated after a close second place finish in the previous round, connected two rounds later and elbowed his way to the front, with a strong 210. That score would stand, usually, and earn a win for Bob most every other race day. Mot would have none of it. He began his OLM rotation racing alongside Mr. Rolls Royce, Mr. Karmann Ghia and the resurgent David Singer. The next four heats were lightning fast, super competitive gems that couldn’t have finished closer. Mr. Resurgent would finish with 200 laps even, good enough for fourth. Mr. Karmann Ghia’s 209 laps would bring him home third. Both Tommy and Bob Lamarta amassed 210 laps. Bob’s 15 track sections would be good enough for second only, two stupid track sections fewer than Tommy’s 17.
Also of note; Johnny O. again finished well, coming home 5th in his first OLM race, which is pretty impressive.
– Outlaw Late Model Results / Victory Speedway Oval –
Mot Fitzcharles - 210.17
Bob “Rolls Royce” Lamarta - 210.15
Doc “Karmann Ghia” Cosel - 209
David “drives a ‘68 Mustang in real life” Singer - 200
Johnny O. - 199
Dave K. - 197
John Ciccone - 188
Vinny Guardino - 180
Jeff Scott - 170
Charlie Clohessey - 148/DNF
Thank you, again, to Tommy Kosch for hosting such a great day. Congrats to all drivers for not getting murdered while marshalling the Outlaw Late Model division cars. We will be back in action NEXT SATURDAY at Jimmy Bee's Lafayette Speedway. Please check the NJHO Event schedule at the top of this page for more detail.
Race #2 Victory National Raceways
20th Annual Blast
The 20th Annual "BLAST" is now history. Thanks to all the 27 racers that showed up for a great day. A big thank you to FLR, and Wizzard for their support and race prizes. Their names will be posted on my race board for 1 year, from now until the 21st "BLAST" takes place.
What a great fun filled day of racing was had by all in attendance. 27 Racers competed at the 20th Annual Blast, giving it their all to try and top the podium. There were a few first timers for this years races. It was great to have them and hope to see them at future Blast’s. The days biggest winner was a man who is know stranger to being on top of the podium although this one was a little more special. John Teevan was making his last start as a regular member of NJHOSCR as he will be moving south. John let everyone know why he is called the master builder. His cars were dominant through out the field of racers. He picked up the win in the tough Sportsman class against some of the best racers in the northeast. Finishing second was first time starter RC Lincoln. He turned in the same amount of laps but was a few track sections short of winning. Rounding out the podium was Joel Lux, who was only 7 sections ahead of 4th place finisher Henry Harnish. Joel and Henry put on some show as each showed their skill turning some of the fastest laps of the day.

Henry Harnish showed why he has the nick name “Champ” as he showed the quick way around the original Aurora tub track. Henry and Joel Lux once again dueled door to door trying to best each other and the rest of the 27 car starting field. Henry picked up the win by half a track over Joel. Rounding out the podium was invader RC Lincoln, Finishing just one lap behind the top two racers. It was great to see all the talent through out the field as was seen by the finishing order.
