Sportsman Class Rules
This class will be run at 18 volts.
• Chassis – T-Dash, Johnny Lightning/AutoWorld, Autoworld Ultra G with button traction magnet removed, Wizjet and Aurora ThunderJet. Chassis base must remain stock without modifications with the exception of the Autoworld/JL chassis floor adjacent to the pickup shoe tabs. This area may be trimmed 1/8 inch if necessary to allow the use of aftermarket pick up shoes. Also, the Ultra G traction magnet pocket may be trimmed for ground clearance. Also, you can peen/reem the holes in the chassis.
• Top plate - trimming of the top plate rails for body clearance will be allowed and only to the level of the top surface of the gear plate. Rails must remain entirely under the gear plate clip. Top plate must be the same type as manufactured. (Ex. Dash chassis with Dash plate, T-jet with matching plate must use original or after market brass gears. AW chassis and plate must use stock plastic gears. You can not mix and match plates or gears to different brand chassis. Also, you can peen/reem the holes in the top plate.
• Gears – Stock or stock replacement gears only which include arm pinion, idler, drive, and crown. This means any on-market gears, such as RT-HO, Dash gears, Model Motoring, etc. No lightened gears allowed. Minimum crown gear diameter shall be .300. All gears shall not be beveled or otherwise altered (chamfered, lightened, or relieved).
• Pinion gear - Any pinion may be used.
• Armatures – 14 ohm minimum armature from Dash, OS3 Typhoon, Johnny Lightning/Autoworld , and Aurora. Balancing, truing permitted. No rewinds or de-winds allowed. Arms may be from any mfg. You can mix arms with chassis of a different mfg. Maximum spacing of .020 shims between the arm and the bottom of the top plate only.
• Magnets – stock Aurora, JL, AW, Dash Killer Bee or blue white, or Super ll (Shims allowed – non-ferrous material only, no painting of magnets allowed).
• Brushes – copper/carbon composite only and must be O.E.M. type, Examples are Thunder brushes, Wizzard, BSRT, Slottech, Model Motoring, etc. NO SILVER BRUSHES. You can cut an x or a single V-channel to brush bottom to keep them from spinning.
• Pickup Shoes - O.E.M. stock pick up shoes and similar T-Jet replacements such as BSRT, DASH, American Line, Wizzard or Slot Tech (Ski shoes not allowed). The range of travel may be limited.
• Pickup Springs - original OEM, Aurora, American Line, BSRT (t-jet springs only), Dr. Oogan, Wizzard , Champ or any other readily available spring.
• Front Ends - All on market weighted Front Ends are legal, i.e. Zoomin Motorsports, RTHO, Wizzard, OS3,FLR and BRP. Custom front ends using stock components may be used but must be approved. In lieu of a weighted front end, weight may be used on a stock OEM front end only. You may not add weight to a weighted front end.
• Rear tires and rims - single or double flange hubs designed to be used with slip on silicone tires. Rims can only be made of aluminum,plastic, nylon or delrin. No weighted or solid hubs allowed. No coating of silicone tires allowed!
• Axles - Shall not exceed 1 5/16” (1.312”) in length. Any axle material may be used, i.e. steel, drill rod, brass, tungsten, stainless steel. The diameter must not to exceed .065 inch. You can use spacers inside and outside of the tub on the rear axle.
• Guide pin – stock or any commercial readily available plastic or delrin T-Jet guide pin
• Maximum width 1 5/16” (1.312”).
• All 4 tires must touch and roll.
Weight- Complete car must weight between 19 and 24 grams.
• Body – Any full fendered injection molded plastic or resin body may be used. This includes Fray and ECHORR SS type resin race bodies. ++No Indy bodies for this class! No feather weight resin or lexan bodies allowed. Body must have at least a front windshield. With the exception of a stock non-weighted front end, no additional weight may be added.
One of a kind, custom, or home-brew parts are not permitted.
